The Ford F-450 is a revolutionary step forward in the full-size, heavy-duty pickup truck market. The F-450 has set itself apart from the competition by rethinking the entire segment and offering an all-aluminum body on all of its models to reduce the curb weight while maintaining both the expected payload and towing values. The all-aluminum body and pickup box reduces the curb weight by up to 350 lb. and this translates to better fuel efficiency with the diesel engine.
The F-450 is offered as a dual rear-wheel (DRW) truck only. The F-450's purpose is to offer a truck with unparalleled payload and towing capabilities. The F-450 is available as a 4x2 or a 4x4 crew cab model with an 8-foot box only. The standard engine is the innovative 6.7-liter turbo 440-hp V8 Powerstroke diesel with an incredible 925 lb.-ft. of torque and it is mated to the TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift and a Tow/Haul mode. The F-450 is available in six trims and these include the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and the Limited. The F-450 offers standard amenities such as traction control, a hill launch assist feature, 19.5-inch forged aluminum wheels, six airbags including side curtains, air conditioning, a rear camera, manual tilt and telescoping steering wheel and trailer sway control. The XLT adds many features including power and heated exterior mirrors, locking under seat storage compartments, SiriusXM satellite radio, SYNC, cruise control, power door locks with a remote keyfob and power windows. The Lariat adds to the features found on the XLT with LED spot lights on the exterior mirrors, an auto dimming interior rearview mirror, power leather front seats, automatic climate control, a premium Sony audio system, SYNC 3, power adjustable pedals, a leather steering wheel and a power rear window with defrost. The King Ranch further adds to the Lariat features by offering illuminated running boards, a two tone paint application, automatic high-beam control, heated and ventilated front seats with memory control for the driver, HD radio, a navigation system, Intelligent Access with a push button start, a power operated tilt and telescoping steering wheel and a remote start system. The Platinum trim also further adds to the Lariat trim by offering power running boards, adaptive speed-sensing steering, Quad LED head lamps and tail lamps, multi-contour massaging front seats, heated rear seats and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS). The new for 2018 Limited trim adds to the content of the Platinum by coming standard with a twin panel sunroof, adaptive cruise control, the ultimate trailer tow camera system utilizing a 360 degree camera configuration and a lane departure and front collision warning system. The F-450 towing capabilities are unmatched in the heavy-duty pickup truck segment. Features such as a smart trailer tow connector, a dynamic hitch assist option that utilizes cameras to facilitate hitching up a trailer, a trailer brake controller and a 360 degree trailer tow camera system coupled with outstanding towing numbers allows the F-450 to stand alone in this segment.
For 2018, the 4x2 F-450 is reintroduced and a new Limited trim is offered on the 4x4 crew cab models. A rear camera is standard on the XL trim and all 4x4 models now have electronic-shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) as standard equipment.
